12 Steps Toward Healing Depression

1. Stop eating refined sugar (Yes, that includes agave and coconut sugar.) You can have real honey in moderation.

2. Move your body for at least 20 minutes every day. More than that if at all possible. Walking outside remains one of the simplest, most accessible, and best forms of exercise.

3. Stop eating flour, meaning anything ground into a powder then turned into bread, crackers, muffins, etc. Even “gluten free” flour, coconut flour, almond flour, and whatever flour you might be thinking about.

4. Avoid all chemical additives in your food. Read labels. Don’t eat dyes and preservatives and anything that sounds like it was made in a lab.

5. Get some unfiltered sunshine on your skin every day. Stop fearing the sun.

6. Remove all artificial scents from your life. Get rid of the scented cleaning products, body products, air fresheners, etc.

7. Write down 10 things you are grateful for every day.

8. Be helpful to other people. Try to bring opportunities for happiness and gratitude to other people every day. Seek out ways to be of service to others.

9. Go to be before 11 pm and get out of bed before 8 am.

10. Eat more real fats: butter, ghee, avocados, lard, olive oil, fatty fish, etc. Your brain evolved to need lots of good fats.

11. Make yourself a mood elevating tea every day. I like the following herbs (but there are so many more): tulsi, lemon balm, oats, rosemary, bergamot, mint, lemon verbena, lemon peel, cinnamon, hawthorn, anise hyssop.

12. If you skip a day (or week, or month) of these actions, forgive yourself and start again.
