Introduction to Herbalism
The course will introduce students to the fundamentals of herbalism. Topics will include:

• Basic Botany: Understanding plant anatomy, identification, and classification.
• Herbal Constituents: Exploring the chemical compounds found in herbs and their therapeutic effects.
• Historical Context: A look at the history and evolution of herbal medicine.

Materia Medica
A significant portion of the course is dedicated to the Materia Medica—a comprehensive study of medicinal herbs. Over the span of 16 weeks, we will cover more than 150 herbs. Key aspects include:

• Herb Profiles: Detailed information on each herb, including its botanical name, common names, family, and parts used.
• Medicinal Properties: An exploration of the healing properties of each herb, including its actions, indications, and contraindications.
• Preparations and Dosages: Guidance on how to prepare and use herbs safely and effectively.

Herbal Practices
Students will learn hands-on techniques for working with herbs, such as:

• Harvesting and Drying: Best practices for collecting and preserving herbs.
• Formulation: Creating herbal blends and remedies tailored to specific health needs.
• Application: Various methods of administering herbs, including teas, tinctures, salves, and more.

Classes will be held on-line Tuesday evenings 6 pm to 8 pm Mountain Time from June 3 through September 16, 2025.

Classes will be recorded and accessible for those unable to attend in person.
